Question
My solar car isn’t moving or moves slowly.
Answer
If your solar car doesn’t seem to be working appropriately when you attempt to drive it, be sure to check the following:
1. Depending on transit/how long the solar panel has sat in the box, we recommend allowing the panel to absorb 6-8 hours of full sun, without obstruction of shaded areas or clouds. This should allow for a full recharge of the panel.
- It is not recommended to charge the panel through glass, such as a window.
- It is not recommended to charge the panel on cloudy days. The panel will need full sun, without obstruction.
- Be sure to note if the area your vehicle is charging becomes shaded; move the panel into a sunny space as needed.
2. Confirm the leads have a good and secure connection to the motor pins. The best connection comes when the teeth of the alligator clips are positioned so they are contacting the flat/wide sides of the motor pins, not the thin edges of the motor pins (see photos).
