The following steps are what we use in customer service we evaluating a returned Echo Drone.
When having issues with a drone we suggest the following to determine which item is causing the erratic flight.
First, replace the battery with another fully charged battery and then try to fly the drone. If the drone flies correctly the issue is with the battery.
A fully charged battery should give you 8-10 minutes of flight time. Some batteries after charging show 3 green lights, and within 30 seconds of flight time, the light will be down to 2 and then 1 before a minute has passed. This would be a defective battery and we would replace it under warranty.
If the battery switching did not correct the issue with the drone flight, switch to a different controller. Then with the new controller see if the drone responds correctly. If the drone flies correctly then the controller is defective.
If the battery and controller do not correct the issue, then the problem is with the drone body.
