Purpose and Scope
This process explains how to do a hard reset if your Tello EDU Drone is not powering on and how to proceed with updating the drone’s firmware.
Answer
1. Ensure the battery is charged.
- If charging while battery is inserted in the drone, it will not blink blue like normal, but it will be warm.
- You can also use a freshly charged battery by using one of the external multi-chargers (4-port charger).
2. Start with the battery removed from the drone.
3. Hold the power button on the drone down while inserting the battery into the drone. You should see a green light.
4. Continue holding the power button down with the battery remaining in the drone until the Aircraft Status Indicator light on the drone turns to a solid red (around three seconds).
5. While the Aircraft Status Indicator light remains solid red, connect the drone to a device via Wi-Fi.
- Open the device’s available Wi-Fi connections, and select the TELLO option that is followed by a unique ID for the drone.
6. After the drone is connected to your device via Wi-Fi, proceed to open the Tello app on your connected device.
7. Within the Tello app, go to Settings (gear icon in top left) > More.
- When in the “more area,” tap the three dots (...) icon in the left of the screen.
8. Tap the blue Update button on the Firmware Version line to update the drone’s firmware.
9. When the update is complete, restart your drone and test to ensure it powers on successfully as well as connects to your device and controller.
10. If the problem persists, please call the Pitsco Product Support team at 800-774-4552 or email [email protected].
Additional Comments
We saw this with a drone that was fresh out of the box; however, this could be relevant to know over the life of the drone.
